Elizabeth Wamsley

Elizabeth Wamsley has been shown in over fifty art exhibits. These include MOA Gallery, LA, CA; Chicago Art Institute; LACE; LACMA Orton Cone Box Show, Fortner Gallery, Santa Barbara, CA; LA Band Gallery, LA; Indianapolis Museum of Art; etc; Her ceramic art is in the collectors of over twelve serious art collectors.

Her dedication to clay is passionate. "Clay is my meditation, my solace, my grace - it humbles me"

Wamsley has been "making stuff" since early childhood. "One of my first memories are of painting a rain puddle on a sidewalk getting, lost in the magical process of my hand making images and then watching the images fading.

Inspired by Mt. Whitney

She studied in the BFA program at IU with John Goodheart. "Mr. Goodheart provided an open and tremendously creative atmosphere. I am forever thankful for the experience - it was a time of great clay experimentation/exploration. Both MFA and BFA students really pushed the edge - primarily do to Goodheart's ability to allow individual growth."

Wamsley has many awards, the latest '03 LA Times Critic award. She has taught clay processes, and was artist in residence at IU Campus Community Art Center for three  years. "I want students to go beyond bowls/mugs - to open a perception of clay as an inner expression of who that individual is."
